A little bit about me

Hello!  I’m Laura Precious.

Big thanks for stopping by.

Since I was little, I’ve wanted to save the world and never, ever live a boring life. My neurodivergent brain is endlessly enthusiastic and curious about life, and how to make it better for myself, for other people and for our planet.

My brilliant sister Nicky died in 2018 and because of her I know more than ever that life is messy, our time here is short, and that we need to seek joy, find the fun, and bring the light whenever we can.

I’m now on a lifelong mission to balance mischief and meaning…To live a life that’s good.

Few things excite me more than turning ideas into reality

For 20 years I’ve worked in fundraising and development, freelancing for half that time. I spark ideas, develop projects, create plans and shape funding bids - helping secretly brilliant people and organisations turn tangled thoughts into joyful action.

Some highlights…

  • I’ve raised over £3M and brought countless projects to life

  • Worked with brilliant organisations including Oxfam, The Children’s Society and Simple Politics

  • Supported so-close-to-greatness people to turn distant dreams into real world projects and events

  • Co-founded Something Good Collective CIC - to make it easier for people to do good in the world

  • Mentored fundraisers in the UK, US and Africa to develop and fund ideas for their communities

  • Helped my own kids raise £4,500 to save 20 acres of cloud forest in Ecuador.

Against the Odds for the win

I can’t resist a challenge, and believe most things are possible if we try. I once bet my husband I could shake Jack Black’s hand in 1,000 days or change my middle name to Tenacious.

Spoiler alert…I DID IT, and unexpectedly brought national press and thousands of lovely strangers along for the ride.

Leftfield is a lively place to be

My drama and improv background have embedded the ‘YES, AND…’ mentality, and I’m keen to embrace the wierd and wonderful adventures of life.

  • Can you sell my filmset catering business?  SURE.

  • Want to be a photographer’s assistant in Tromso?  YES I DO.

  • Fancy being a swimwear model in the algae waves of Cornwall?  OH GOD, OK THEN.

The journey can be as joyful as the destination

Whatever I’m doing, I care deeply.  I work hard, I’m easy to collaborate with, I bring good snacks, and I’m not a dickhead. I do my very best to make the process, the outcome and the impact as good as can be.

Right then…over to you.

If you’ve got a “what if?” or a ‘if only…’ lurking in your mind…I’d love to help turn that into “LET’S GO!”

Laura x

PS.  If you need to name something, I’m your girl. I’ve named a political game, a bar, a Burlesque dancer, a big plastic cow…and many, many projects. (And I’m quietly confident I’m better than ChatGPT on this one.)
